FAQs

In case you were wondering, here are a few answers. We will continue to update this page as we get closer to the event.

What is the average temperature in Charlotte this time of year?

Fall in Charlotte, North Carolina, is quite comfortable with an average temperature of 65°F in November.

Are the events outdoors?

Friday's venue is indoors. Sophia's Lounge, named “Best Upscale Cocktail Bar” by Charlotte Magazine, is an elevated gathering place that serves crafted cocktails. It is adjacent to the Ivey's Hotel on Tryon Street.

Saturday, the events are outdoors. The wedding ceremony and cocktail hour will be in the garden. The reception will be held under a tent. If the weather is unseasonably cold, the venue has outdoor heaters available. Guests also have access to an indoor lounge.

We recommend bringing a wrap, shawl or light jacket if you tend to get chilly. (Though we hear tequila is a great alternative.)

What should I wear to the Friday evening party?

The suggested dress code for Friday evening is Cocktail / Dressy Casual.

👗 Cocktail dress or dressy separates 👔 Dress shirt or golf shirt, lightweight slacks; jacket optional.

This is simply a guideline created by someone who likes to dress up! The most important thing is that you join us and have a great time.

What should I wear to the wedding?

The dress code for the wedding is Formal / Black-tie optional. Loosely translated: Wear what makes you feel fabulous (unless you feel fabulous naked or wearing Crocs)!

💃 Floor-length evening gown or midi-length cocktail dress 🤵🏻‍♂️ Tuxedo or dark suit and tie

You might consider bringing a wrap or light jacket as temperatures will drop into the 50s by late evening.

What type of shoes should I wear?

On Saturday, the outdoor wedding ceremony and cocktail hour locations will require walking on some grass and gravel. If wearing heels, you may want to opt for a block heel or wedge. Whatever shoes you choose - they should be comfortable for dancing!

Where should I park?

Friday evening:
Sophia's Lounge - Parking on Tryon Street is scarce, but you can take your chances! There are two nearby parking garages that cost about $10.

They do make great cocktails! We recommend Ubering or walking. It is .4 miles from the Hilton Uptown Charlotte.

Saturday:
We will be providing a shuttle service to and from the wedding on Saturday. Meet at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown - plaza level - across from Coastal Kitchen by 3:45 PM.

But for those who prefer to drive, there is ample free parking at the wedding venue. Guests may leave their vehicles overnight - as long as they are picked up by noon on Sunday.

Will there be shuttle service to the wedding venue?

Yes! We would love for you to take photos and share them with us! (Details coming)
However, we are contractually obligated to say "the professional photographers ask that you please refrain from taking photos during the ceremony."

I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Please let us know in advance if you will need assistance.

Is there an after party?

Of course! If you're ready for some great craic, we will gather at Rí Rá Irish Pub on Tryon Street. Shuttles from Whitehead Manor will drop guests at the pub (or the hotel if you prefer).

We have reserved tables and will provide late night snacks for guests.

The pub is open until 2 AM - but with the clocks turning back at 2 AM, perhaps we will get an extra hour of celebrating??

How it Began

Once upon a time, in the digital realm of the 21st century, this love story began with a swipe to the right.

Amid a sea of online profiles, there was an immediate spark for both J.B. and Colleen. (J.B. says it had something to do with a picture of Colleen holding two Guinnesses.) Within a minute of swiping right, the two began texting. That online conversation continued for hours. Colleen, intrigued and slightly smitten, canceled her evening plans to keep the conversation going. J.B., post surgery with one arm in a sling, did his best to keep pace, but eventually asked if they could talk on the phone. Three hours later and way past J.B.'s bedtime, the two made plans to meet in person later that week.

Who are we kidding? An unexpected change of plans the next morning and an eagerness to meet - Colleen and J.B. ended up on their first date that afternoon! Meeting in Lakeland, a half way point for both, the two had lunch followed by a long walk around the lake - where something clicked for both of them.

Colleen loved how J.B. was quick to laugh. He was funny, intelligent and unguarded - easily sharing stories of his past and hopes for the future. His love for his girls, his desire to travel (more) and his appetite for adventure were icing on the cake.

J.B., who had, more or less, accepted his bachelor lifestyle, says by the time they finished their walk around the lake, laughing and holding hands, he knew his life was about to change - he'd found the missing piece that he didn't know was missing.

Neither of them wanted the date to end. It was Super Bowl Sunday, and their search to find a quiet spot led them to small bar in the back of an empty Indian restaurant — where they sipped cheap wine, got lost in deep conversation and laughed for hours. And hours. (All while the Super Bowl played and the kitchen staff cheered! Très romantic!)

As that epic date came to a close, they both knew something very special was happening…
